“It’s sad and very discouraging”
A former Goodwill employee has claimed to have leaked an insider secret about why there is no longer anything “valuable” being sold at the thrift store.
Buy, sell or keep? How to decide what to do with a plummeting stock
The TikToker @scroochmagooch previously worked as a drive-thru ambassador at Goodwill. His job was to take donations from drivers and price them according to their value to sell in the store. However, it turns out that anything of real value brought to Goodwill is quickly dumped.

“We were told that if we came across anything valuable, we had to report it directly to the manager so it could be sold at our online store,” he said.
“These objects that we find precious are not thrown on the ground. It is sent to wherever our head office is located so it can be sold online on what is eBay’s version of Goodwill.
He added that people looking for anything that can be digitized, like rare books, DVDs or video games, probably wouldn’t find that in a Goodwill store. Try bidding on items from ShopGoodWill.com instead.
“That’s why a lot of times these days you just can’t find really good items at Goodwill because they’re all sent to be sold at the [online] store,” he said.
Viewers were torn between being surprised by the reveal, while others seemed unsurprised.
“In the 80s, I found incredible stuff. Now I feel bad for the crummy clothes they give people,” one user commented.
“That’s why I only go to church fairs… gold!” someone wrote.
“It’s sad and very disheartening for all those people in need. They’re left with nothing but shit,” one person said.
