Gucci’s next designer collaboration is with Comme Des Garçons
Earlier this year, Gucci and Balenciaga sent a surprise collaborative collection to the catwalk. Featuring classic Gucci Jackie bags printed with ‘Balenciaga’ and cinched-waist suit jackets in Gucci’s bold Rhombus design, the so-called ‘hack’ was Gucci’s first-ever full-fledged haute couture designer collaboration in the world. during its 100 years of history.
Now, following the Gucciaga collection, which is slated to hit the market this fall, the Italian luxury brand has announced a new designer partnership, this time with Japanese brand Comme Des Garçons.
Taking to Instagram, as well as the new Gucci Vault website where you can find limited-edition Gucci clothing, the Italian house team revealed the upcoming collaboration via a short five-second video. The film shows the partial opening of a Gucci x Comme Des Garçons box, which Gucci says contains a co-designed tote, which has yet to be revealed.
This is not the first time that the duo have dropped a cobranded boxy shopper. In 2018, Comme Des Garçons PVC-wrapped paper bags with Gucci’s famous green and red stripe detail sitting above the CDG logo were released for sale in select Dover Street Market stores. Following this, the duo then released the same PVC bag with an all-over Gucci floral design. Naturally, both bags sold out within minutes.
For this collaboration, hitherto shrouded in secrecy, we hope that one of Gucci’s canvas tote bags will have received the CDG treatment. A fully monogrammed GG tote wrapped in PVC? Yes please.
The Gucci x CDG boxy tote will be available from Friday, October 15 on gucci.com and in the new Gucci Circolo Shoreditch store. Make it your bag for life.
